Welcome to Injustice Things!

Have you ever heard the term “Environmental Injustice”? This is not such a common term. Environmental injustice concerns, according to Shoana Gupta, creator of the NasaSpaceApps “SPACE FOR CHANGE” challenge which we are participating in, occurs in certain communities that face a disproportionate burden of environmental challenges, such as exposure to air pollution, contaminated water, loss of habitat and livelihood disrupted due to natural hazards and climate change. These injustices are the result of complex social, political, and geographic arrangements and are aggravated by the current moment we are experiencing today because of the potential of climate change. The people most affected are generally from marginalized, minority, tribal, indigenous, and low-income communities. We at "Injustice Things" want to help show where these challenges occur for the population and be a way to solve them through education and movement ahead of these events, as representatives advocating for the causes of the wrong together with our users on this platform.

Why use this platform?

On this platform, you will be able to increase your ability to correlate facts, identify where social injustices occur, and understand what is happening around the world through a data system that our team created using directly from the NASA database. Have you ever stopped to think about what the current armed conflict has to do with the quality of air in the world? Then, it will be these questions that you will be able to relate and discuss later with friends or with our users, whom we affectionately call “Justiceiros”. Here you'll be able to understand questions from all over the globe and you'll even be able to open questions in the forum to address something interesting about your specific location.

We believe that what will fight environmental injustices and open a "SPACE FOR CHANGE" is education, that is, it will be through the dissemination of knowledge in the area, inducing people to think outside the box, proposing reflections and non-obvious correlations that changes to combat environmental injustices will happen. This is being done on the platform in a very interactive and persuasive way, bringing elements such as lives, explanatory videos on some environmental issues, forums, comments, live chats, etc.

In addition, you will be kept up to date with various social and environmental issues currently being discussed through our posts here and on social media. In addition, we make your report a real cause. You will be able to follow the entire process from reporting to a solution. We generate petitions according to the most mentioned problems in the regions. To keep track of what they are, we have TREND REPORTS, a real-time system that shows which issues are most reported at the moment.

Next Steps

The next steps for the “Injustice Things” project are to get financial support through advertisements on the site, partnerships with companies that also aim to create environmental awareness in the population and arouse interest in these socio-political issues. We are thinking of partnering with entities within colleges and NGOs to boost the number of users on the platform. Another topic that we will work on is digital marketing and thinking about continuous improvements to call the public to participate in this wave of educational awareness about the social and environmental injustices that occur across the planet using extremely science-based data and constantly supplying the site with data on NASA, news, etc.
